Learning with us is a process of consecutive steps that build solid technique and confidence in playing.
Right Hand Techniques
When playing classical guitar, the right hand is the main producer of sound. It uses the thumb, index, middle, and ring fingers. There are two primary right-hand techniques: “apoyando” – playing with rest stroke, where the finger touches the adjacent string after producing the tone, and “tirando” – free stroke, where the finger remains in the air. Both are applied with the thumb and other fingers. Beginners usually start with alternating index and middle fingers, ensuring that the same finger is not used twice in a row. This alternating technique is one of the most important foundations for guitarists.
Thumb and Coordination
At the beginning, the thumb usually plays the bass strings – the 4th, 5th, and 6th, and sometimes also the 3rd. Teachers pay special attention to proper thumb technique. Initially, the right hand plays open strings without the left hand. Correct posture of the right hand is a guarantee for quality tone production. The nails of the right hand also matter – they are carefully shaped and polished to influence tone. The left hand presses the string at the fret with the fingertip, close to the metal fret, where it is easiest. All fingers of the left hand are used, except the thumb, which supports the back of the guitar neck. Good coordination between both hands is essential for proper and expressive performance.
The Path of Progress
Progress in guitar playing is gradual – it is a mistake to believe that impressive results can be achieved in just a few weeks or months. Do not be misled by advertisements promising quick mastery. Real music education requires years of practice, consistency, and discipline. Every lesson is designed to help you progress step by step, building solid technique and musical confidence. Our guitar lessons focus on a balanced approach, combining practice, theory, and creative exploration. A patient and respectful learning environment allows beginners to unlock their potential and grow successfully as musicians, developing both skill and enjoyment. With consistent guidance in our supportive guitar school, students gain the foundation to achieve long-term success and a fulfilling guitar journey.
